My Experience with Restylane Lip Filler
I had Restylane injected into my lips recently. I had received Restylane, Restylane Silk, and Juvederm before and loved my results. I hadn’t gotten any injections in over 6 months and I felt my lips losing volume, so it was time to get more. I had heard lots of buzz about Restylane Silk, so I asked my injector about it. She told me about Restylane Silk’s smooth and fluid consistency, but recommended regular Restylane for me. Restylane Silk is similar to Juvederm Volbella XC and great for reducing lines on and around the mouth and subtly enhancing the lips. She recommended regular Restylane this time because my main concern was adding plumpness to my pout.
A week before my treatment day I was told to follow these steps before getting filler injected. When I arrived for treatment my makeup was removed around my lips and mouth and a topical lidocaine numbing cream was applied. The numbing cream was cold and tingly. Within 15 minutes my mouth and lips were extremely numb. (Don’t get any inside your mouth, it tastes awful and makes your tongue go numb!) While I was numbing, we discussed the type of fullness I wanted in my lips. I showed her some pictures I had saved of lips that I really liked.
My injector wiped away my numbing cream and gave me a foam stress ball to squeeze in case I was nervous. She opened a 1 mL syringe of Restylane. I could see the clear gel inside the syringe. Even though it was ultra fine, I still tried not to look at the needle that was about to be poked in my lips.
The first injection was on my upper lip. The needle stung a little as it went through my lip, and when she injected the Restylane, it just felt like a weird pressure. Restylane contains lidocaine, which numbs the lips even more and reduces discomfort. After that, the rest of my upper lip injections were a breeze. I couldn’t feel any other needle pokes after that, but I think she did four or five.
My injector did a little molding and shaping of my upper lip, she squeezed and squished the Restylane around until it was in a smooth, even shape. She moved onto my lower lip and started injecting. My lower lip was already completely numb, so I didn’t feel any of it. The lower lip injections went faster, and before I knew it she was finished and molding my lower lip.
She finished by applying some Arnica Montana to reduce bruising. My whole appointment took about an hour and I was given instructions on what to do to care for my lips. Right after my lip injections my lips were swollen and red. I couldn’t feel my lips for an hour afterwards, but regained feeling later that day. I didn’t bruise from my treatment, but my lips were sore for 4 days afterwards. They felt tender, even drinking out of a cup hurt a little.
After two weeks, my lips looked and felt amazing, I had a more plump and feminine pout! I saw my injector again for my followup and she felt my lips for evenness. She said my lips looked great and the two week followup appointment is when she would normally do a correction if my lips had turned out unneven.
My experience with Restylane was great. After my lips were healed my lips felt normal again and I could barely feel the filler inside. One thing I have noticed is the Restylane is very smooth inside my lips. I have had Juvederm and could slightly feel bumps in my lips. I will have to ask my injector if she used a different technique this time, or if the products just feel different. I will definitely be getting Restylane again in the future.
