I have suffered from some awful bruising after getting Juvederm and Botox. Bruising is an obvious sign that you’ve just gotten a treatment.  Not all bruising and swelling can be prevented, but it can be reduced.  Follow these simple tips before any cosmetic treatment like Botox, Dysport, Sculptra, Microneedling, PRP, and fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, Voluma, Radiesse, to reduce bruising.

  • Avoid any blood thinners like: aspirin, motrin, advil, ibuprofen, excedrin, alleve, and naproxen for a week before treatment.
  • Be sure to let your injector know if you are on any prescription blood thinners.
  • Don’t take any fish oil,  vitamin E, ginseng, or ginko bilboa. Try to stop those about 1 week prior to the treatment.
  • Avoid drinking any alcohol for 1-2 days prior to injections.
  • Cut garlic out of your diet 1-2 days before injections.
  • Drink plenty of water the day before your treatment.
  • Bromelain and Aloe Vera can be used to reduce pain and swelling.
  • Tylenol can be taken for pain before treatment, since it does not thin the blood.
  • Arnica Montana, a homeopathic remedy found at drug stores and health-food stores, can be taken the morning before treatment to help reduce pain and inflammation.
  • Bromelain and Aloe Vera can be used to reduce pain and swelling.
  • If you are getting fillers in your lips and have a history of cold sores, be sure to let your doctor know, they may advise you to  take Valtrex before or after your treatment.
  • A cold compress should be applied for 10 minutes prior to injections to constrict blood vessels and to numb the area.

Follow these simple steps before your appointment to reduce unnecessary and embarrassing bruising.  Be sure to follow the Post Procedure Instructions to ensure proper healing and results after your treatment.
