What Microblading is really like! Before and After

My sparce brows before microblading

Who doesn’t want beautiful and perfectly shaped brows 24/7?  As an avid beauty lover, I have watched about a thousand makeup and beauty tutorials on social media.  A few years ago I was at the International Beauty Show in Las Vegas and saw microblading for the first time.  Microblading is like the new school version of permanent makeup.  Gone are the days of scary electric tattoo guns in your face.  Now you can get perfectly sculpted brows, with practically no down time.  Microblading is a semi-permanent treatment that provides natural looking brows for up to 3 years.  Tiny hair strokes of pigment are hand placed between actual hairs.

I knew that microblading would be perfect for me!  I have naturally light eyebrows that are extremely thin.  In the past few years I have tried creams, powders, and so many pencils in an effort to have beautiful eyebrows.  One of my favorite brow fixes, the Anastasia Beverly Hills Perfect Brow Pencil, proved reliable in my makeup routine but still required time and energy that I don’t always have.  I was ready for a hassle free solution and to save time and money!

I scoured the web and contacted several spas to learn more about microblading.  I finally found RN Christi Langton of Dermaticfx on Instagram. I saw her impressive before and after photos, so I contacted her and scheduled my appointment.  Christi sent me some forms along with the pre and post care instructions for microblading.  For 7 days prior to treatment I had to avoid excessive sun exposure and harsh skincare products like retinols.  To minimize bleeding I didn’t take any Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E, Fish Oil, Ibuprofen, and alcohol for 24 hours before treatment.  Also I could not have any recent Botox or filler treatment in the area for at least 2 weeks prior to treatment.

I arrived at my appointment and Christi made me feel at ease with the whole process.  I had a so many questions and she answered all of them.  Once I was in the treatment chair she cleansed, exfoliated and prepped my skin for microblading by applying a topical numbing cream.

Christi starting on my brow outline

Before any actual microblading is done, an outline of the brows must be created.  Christi applied a clear adhesive measuring tool to my forehead.  This tool helps with creating the outline and ensuring that the brows are symmetrical.  Shaping took about 45 minutes.  While discussing brow shapes, I showed Christi some pictures of how I usually fill in my brows with pencil.  Christi made absolutely sure that I loved the outline before she started.

Before the actual microblading began I was a little freaked out!  I had recently talked to someone who told me their experience at another spa was painful.  So needless to say I was nervous to start microblading.  Christi had me lay back on the treatment chair and she showed me that the microblading “blade” was actually not a huge scary knife like I had imagined, it was just a some tiny needles on the end of a handle.

During microblading treatment on my eyebrows

When she started I was pretty much completely numb.  I didn’t feel any real pain, but I did feel some pressure, as she dragged her microblade across my brows.  After a few minutes I was so relieved that the treatment wasn’t painful and that I could relax.  Microblading felt like a fingernail scratching into my brow a little bit.  Christi continued on my brows for about an hour, she used her tool and pigment to draw hairstrokes, then wiped away the excess color to review her work.

Even though Christi showed me my brows every step of the way, I was so excited when she said I could look at the finished product!  I absolutely loved the shape and color brows she created for me.  My brows felt a little tender, but I barely had any redness or swelling.

I followed my post care instructions for the following week. Christi warned me that as my eyebrows were healing the color would darken, then dry and flake, then my final results would be visible. As promised, my brows darkened and flaked during the week after treatment.  I love my brows now! One thing that took some getting used to was waking up in the morning with perfectly even and fabulous brows!  I never need to fill in my brows or worry about shaping them.  I get compliments on my eyebrows almost everyday!

Before and after microblading on my eyebrows

Christi mentioned that an occasional touch up or two might be required to make sure my brows are completely even.  I have noticed one small area on my brows that isn’t as dark as the rest of my brows.   I will be going in for my touch up soon.
