Volbella Creates Smooth Lips
There is serious buzz and excitement around Allergan’s newest filler, Juvederm Volbella XC. Volbella promises to smooth lines around the lips and add a subtle plump to your pout for a year! Volbella is a hyaluronic acid injectable gel filler FDA approved for lip augmentation and to smooth lip lines.
Allergan has formulated Volbella with their proprietary Vycross technology. Vycross technology combines different weights of hyaluronic acid molecules to provide smooth, long lasting results. Also, Volbella contains a lower concentration of hyaluronic acid (15mg/mL), which Allergan says makes it appropriate to treat perioral lines and add subtle volume to the lips. The 
lower hyaluronic acid levels mean that Volbella is less hydrophilic. This means that it won’t absorb as much water, which will give a more natural result.
I am curious to see how Volbella performs with lip augmentations. I have a feeling since Volbella is a thin and smooth filler for treating lip lines, it may not add the level of plump that some patients have grown to expect from Juvederm. It is important for injectors to inform their patients that just because Volbella is a lip filler, it is not exactly the same as Juvederm. There are important differences to consider when getting treatment.
The Allergan representative that I’ve talked with has compared their newest 
product to Galderma’s Restylane Silk. Both Restylane Silk and Volbella are FDA approved to smooth lines around the mouth and plump the lips. One major selling point of Volbella is that results can last through 12 months! Restylane Silk on the other hand only claims to lasts about 6 months. Of course each patient’s body and metabolism are unique, this is a huge difference in duration.

Like any Hyaluronic Acid filler, there are important pre-treatment instructions and post-treatment instructions to follow for best results. I am so excited and will keep you posted when I get to test it out for myself.
