Starting Preventative Botox
Botox and Dysport are wonderful treatments that reduce the ability for muscles to move, therefore preventing wrinkles and lines from forming. Botox and Dysport are great for not just treating wrinkles, but preventing them!
I decided to try Dysport when I noticed a small vertical crease between my eyebrows. When I put my makeup on in the morning my forehead looked smooth. But by the end of the day I would have a straight vertical line between my brows and my makeup would gather and show the crease even more! I had noticed this in pictures, and promptly untagged myself several times. Even as conscious as I was to not scrunch my brows together, my line always came back. After trying different setting powders and makeup primers, I took to Google to look for a better solution. Considering Botox at 21 felt a bit extreme at first. I definitely didn’t want to look different or for my family and friends to notice I had anything done. I wasn’t even sure I could afford it, let alone keep up with regular treatments.
When I finally took the plunge, I decided to give Dysport injections a try. Botox and Dysport only last 3-4 months, so I figured if I didn’t like it, at least it wasn’t permanent. Before my appointment I was given some pre-treatment instructions to follow. My nurse injector told me she actually has lots of patients in their twenties and explained that I wouldn’t look any different, but that the muscles in my forehead would just be stiffer. Since my area of concern was pretty small and it was my first treatment, my injector decided to treat me conservatively. She only used 40 units of Dysport to treat the vertical “eleven lines” on my forehead.
My nurse felt my forehead and had me make an angry face and a relaxed face and she marked my forehead where she would be injecting. The injections didn’t hurt at all, I barely felt them actually. The needle was tiny and the amount of Dysport in the syringe didn’t look like that much. I did feel and hear a little crunching sound as the needle went through my muscle. I got a little dizzy after the injections were done, but I think that was because I was nervous about having needles in my face. Immediately after treatment I had a few little red bumps on my forehead at the injection sites. By the time I got home the red bumps were gone. I was given some Botox and Dysport post care instructions to follow at home. Basically no laying down for a few hours, and I couldn’t get a facial or massage my face for several hours.
I loved my results, within 5 days my Dysport started working and my forehead was completely smooth! I didn’t bruise at all or have any negative experience from my treatment. My makeup stayed smooth between my brows. I felt more confident and wasn’t constantly worried about not scrunching my face. The results from my first treatment actually lasted for about 5 months. During the 5th month I slowly noticed the Dysport wearing off and my crease coming back. I was glad it didn’t wear off all at once, so I had time to schedule another appointment and start taking Zinc Citrate and Phytase before my treatment. (This combination of supplements is called the Botox-Booster and can make Botox last 30% longer!)
I am definitely a believer, I am so glad I started getting Botox and Dysport. I always recommend people start Botox treatments sooner rather than later. It takes years for deep wrinkles to form, so starting preventative treatments now is a good idea. Smooth skin is young looking skin. Stay looking younger longer by getting Botox or Dysport treatments early. I don’t want to pressure anyone into getting Botox. However, I think it is a good idea to start preventative treatments in your twenties and thirties. Paying attention to and investing in your skin will only help you in the future.
