What is Juvederm Voluma XC?

Juvederm Voluma XC is a thick injectable gel designed for deep injections in the cheek area to increase volume.  Voluma is the first and only filler FDA-approved to instantly add volume to the cheek area.  Voluma is part of Allergan’s Juvederm family of fillers.  Voluma can add volume, lift, and contour to the apples of the cheeks, cheekbones, and hollows of the cheeks.  By plumping and lifting the cheeks, an overall more youthful, contoured profile is created.
Voluma is a very popular non-surgical option to lift and rejuvenate the face.  Aging causes sagging and flattening that affects all areas of the face.  Adding volume to the cheek area lifts and contours the midface and softens smile lines.  Treatment with Voluma is often referred to as a liquid facelift.

Voluma absolutely works to add volume to the cheek area! I have seen Voluma injected into the cheeks of countless patients and provide beautiful results.  Treatment with Voluma is pretty simple.  The filler is injected deep, down to the cheekbone.  The filler being injected this deep acts as a support system for all of the tissue above it.  Voluma adds volume and also lifts and supports the client’s natural tissue.  Patients simply schedule an appointment, follow a few instructions before treatment, and arrive for treatment.  A numbing cream is applied topically to the cheeks, and Voluma also contains lidocaine to reduce discomfort during treatment.  Your injector will talk with you about your specific needs.  Injections typically take around 30 minutes.  While results from Voluma are instant, best results can start to be seen after about 2 weeks.  It can sometimes take 2 weeks for the filler to settle and for any bruising or swelling to subside, follow these post treatment steps for best results.

Does Voluma really last 2 years?

According to the Voluma clinical trials, Voluma lasts up to 2 years, and makes patients look 5 years younger.  There is some truth to this claim, but only when patients receive optimal treatment.  Optimal treatment means full correction, or exactly enough product to fully restore the cheeks.  During the clinical trials the average volume required to reach optimal correction for the cheek area was 6.8 mL.  A syringe of Juvederm Voluma XC is 1 mL, so optimal treatment is about 7 syringes of Voluma.  

I’ve seen several patients get frustrated when they desire full cheek rejuvenation, but only budgeted for a single syringe of Voluma.  If your injector recommends a certain number of syringes, you may want to follow their instructions to achieve the best possible results.  It is important for patients to have realistic expectations for the treatment they will be receiving.   Voluma is an effective filler and much cheaper and less invasive than a facelift.   I recommend Voluma for anyone who wants a more youthful look.
