Lumpy Lips After Juvederm Lip Filler
I recently had Juvederm Ultra XC injected into my lips to add volume and plump my lips. I have had Juvederm and Restylane injected several times in the past without any issues. However, for some reason this time, I had a very noticeable ball of Juvederm!
There was one lump in particular that I could really feel on the inside of my bottom lip. The lump wasn’t visible to anyone, but to me it was really annoying. All day I could feel it with my tongue along with two other smaller lumps. The lumps were like round balls inside my lips. I could actually move them around a little bit with my tongue.
I knew Juvederm takes a little while to settle into place, so I went to my injector’s office as soon as I possibly could. I had about a million questions my injector, such as “Did something go wrong during my injections? Did I do something wrong after my injections? Will this lump ever go away?”
My cosmetic injector looked at my lips and examined my before pictures. She also felt my lips and slightly massaged around to feel the lumps. She explained to me that the Juvederm Ultra XC is a thick gel and she injects it in little bead-like balls throughout my upper and lower lips. She also said not to bother the bump and that it would smooth out in a week or two. She explained swelling, lumps, bumps, and bruises are completely normal the first few weeks after any fillers. I was told to read over my post filler instructions.
I was so relieved to find out there was nothing wrong with me or my new lip injections. My injector did say that if a lump of filler were visible, or if I could see any blueish or grayish color on my lips, it may have to be dissolved. When filler is injected too close to the surface of the skin, something called Tyndall Effect happens. To treat Tyndall Effect, a product called Hyaluronidaise has to be injected to dissolve the filler.
This was over a month ago now, and my injector was definitely correct. My little lump of Juvederm Ultra XC did smooth out completely after about 3 weeks. Now my Juvederm feels natural and is pretty hard to detect in my lips.
